Hollytex Beaulieu

Saxony - also known as Velvet. Cut pile carpet with only one direction of twist (which may be known as knap, that can appear darker or lighter depending on which way the carpet is run). The smooth surface of this carpet usually has a flat luster and defiantly shows footprints, vacuum cleaner marks, and possibly where the cat walks. This style has been a popular choice for dining rooms because of its more formal or elegant appearance.

Textured -also known as a Textured Saxony or Plush. Cut pile carpet with yarns twisted in different directions so as to help hide footprints and traffic marks. The twisting of yarn in different directions allows the yarns to spring back from crushing in the differing directions, helping to mask the foot traffic patterns. This carpet has highlights and lowlights or often appears slightly two-tone. This style may have more of a luster or shine to the overall surface appearance. It is considered more casual in it's appearance.

Frieze - an over twisted yarn. Not easily compared to Saxonies. This carpet is manufactured by over twisting the yarns so they fall back on themselves, sometimes giving the appearance of little worms. This carpet is in a constant state of flux. It will/may show footprints and traffic marks going in one direction but whenever you cross back it fluffs up what you just laid down. Twist gives carpet it's memory. Being over twisted, some people say, friezes wear like iron. This style gives a great texture to the floor, soft and subtle.

Berber - a product of loops. Technically in the industry 'Berber' refers to flecking or multi-coloring; but because, so many loop products are flecked with other colors, the term Berber has become synonymous with looped products. This product may be of one type called level loop (where all the loops are at one height) or multi-leveled. The sizing of the loops can vary from very small to extremely large or a mixture of any. Berbers usually wear very well in most cases however some are made of fibers that when extruded still have oils left on them, which will attract dirt and show the traffic paths more readily. A short, tight loop is the most desirable for long wear in loop style carpets. This style of carpet is available in a variety of patters from small squares to large geometric diamonds, sisal looks, or just plain flat diagonally run rows.

Cut and Uncut- a mixture of both loop and cut pile products. This style of carpet will give an overall pattern to the room. By mixing both the loop and Saxony styles intricate designs can be achieved, from geometric to fluid movements. This type is usually a lower pile carpet that should not show footprints or excessive wear in residential applications. This type of carpet can give a very formal or casual appearance depending on the type of pattern chosen. Often times the carpet will also seem two-tone because of the differing heights of both cut and loops. Shadows may fall allowing for some parts of the carpet to appear darker in nature when really it is just one color.
